US Airways Cuts Flights at Pittsburgh Airport
Go Erie, PA
IMPERIAL — Citing low demand, US Airways cut 58
flights from its Saturday schedule at Pittsburgh
International Airport.
The flight cancellations, made last month, prompted
one Allegheny County Airport Authority board member to
charge that the airline is going against its word.
"They made a commitment that they wouldn't cut
flights, and they cut flights every month," board
member Rich Stanizzo said.
— From wire reports
The airline has agreed to maintain service levels in
Pittsburgh through September while negotiations
continue on reducing airport debt.
The cutbacks were consistent with a verbal agreement
to maintain about 2,600 flights a week out of
Pittsburgh, plus or minus 12.5 percent, said US
Airways spokesman David Castelveter. The airline
continues to maintain service during other days of the
week.
"It's simply matching capacity with demand,"
Castelveter said. "Saturday is the least heavily
traveled day of the week and the evening hours on
Saturday have even less travel. So we have adjusted
our schedules accordingly."
