Columbia Metro Airport Asks Travelers to Show Support
of Low-Cost Airline
WIS, SC
(Columbia) Feb. 17, 2004 - The Columbia Metro Airport
is trying a new approach in efforts to land a low-cost
airline.
The airport is now served by several established air
carriers, including United Express, but a subsidiary
of that airline, Atlantic Coast Airlines, is trying to
break away and form a new carrier called Independence
Air.
Columbia is on a list of cities that could become
destinations for Independence Air.
Columbia Metro's Director Lynn Douglas is asking air
travelers and business leaders to sign up on the
airline's website and show support for Independence
Air, "We feel like with any new airline coming in,
it's very important that we have the community
support. And the importance behind that is to show the
airline if they come in they are going to be very
successful, they're going to be profitable obviously,
and they're also meeting a need."
The Independence Air website is FlyI.com.
