Meeting to Eye Plan for Airport Improvements

The fourth in a series of meetings of the Long Beach
Airport Advisory Commission studying the scope of a
planned Environmental Impact Report on proposed
airport improvements is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday
at the Long Beach Energy Department, 2400 E. Spring
St. in Long Beach.
The session will include an overview of a proposed new
parking structure, as well as legal issues that the
EIR might need to address in connection with the
proposed airport improvements.
Commissioners also are scheduled to hear from airport
users, community groups and individuals during another
scheduled Feb. 26meeting on the EIR on Feb. 26. Those
interested in speaking must call airport spokeswoman
Sharon Diggs-Jackson at (562) 570-2636 to schedule an
appearance.
In addition, advance copies of any presentations or
position papers are being requested by the commission
by Feb. 19Thursday so they can be distributed during
the Feb. 26 meeting.
Airport officials are proposing the construction of
new permanent passenger hold rooms, to replace
temporary facilities built to accommodate passenger
growth, as well as new parking facilities and other
terminal enhancements.
Neighborhood groups have questioned the need for the
permanent facilities.
A regular scheduled airport advisory commission
meeting is scheduledset before the study session, at 4
p.m., at the same location. Commissioners will review
airport noise reports, get an update on proposed
construction, hear a regional report on air traffic
loads and review a proposed PacifiCenter development
draft Environmental Impact Review.
