HONG KONG (Dow Jones)--Beijing Capital International
Airport Co. (0694.HK) said Tuesday passenger
throughput at the Chinese capital's airport rose 12%
on year in January, led by an increase in domestic
passengers and those traveling to or from Hong Kong
and Macau.

Around 2.5 million passengers passed through the
airport in January, of which 76% were domestic
passengers and 19% were international.

The number of domestic passengers rose 14% on year in
January, while passengers on Hong Kong and Macau
routes increased 37%.

Aircraft movements rose 14% to 23,526 in January. Of
these, 79% were domestic flights, 16% were
international and 4% were flights connecting Hong Kong
and Macau.

The number of domestic flights rose 17.5% on year,
while flights connecting Hong Kong and Macau increased
21%.

While the number of international flights and
passengers were stable compared with a year earlier,
the number of aircraft movements by foreign airlines
rose 2%, carrying 4% more passengers to the airport.

In January, the airport handled 5% fewer cargo than a
year earlier at 41,973 metric tons, of which 71% was
on domestic routes and the rest on international
routes and those serving Hong Kong and Macau.

In 2003, the capital airport recorded a 10% drop in
passenger throughput, as the number of travelers
dropped drastically during the severe acute
respiratory syndrome outbreak in the second quarter of
the year.
