Govt. Holds Meeting to Draw Up Measures Against
Terrorism
Chosun Ilbo, South Korea
The government on Monday called a meeting to devise
measures against terrorism as Korea gets ready to send
additional troops to Iraq.
The meeting was presided over by the Construction and
Transportation Minister and attended by the heads of
major state facilities, including the Korean National
Railroad and Incheon International Airport. Under new
measures, exercises simulating terrorist attacks will
be conducted at major airports, railways, subways and
dams in the country sometime in February or March.
The National Assembly approved a bill last Friday to
dispatch an additional three thousand troops to Iraq's
northern oil city of Kirkuk in April. The move is said
to be a contingency measure to counter security
threats that may arise from the deployment to support
the U.S.-led reconstruction effort in Iraq.
