Best City For New Airport
KXAN-TV, TX

There's no doubt Central Texas has grown significantly
over the past decade and so have the area's general
aviation needs. TxDOT is currently making plans for a
new airport.

The question is: where is it going to go? Twenty
potential locations have now been narrowed down to
only three. Whichever city is chosen will see
significant economic benefits, but there will be
drawbacks too.

The new airport would serve a seven-county area. After
a detailed screening process, three general areas have
been identified as having suitable characteristics for
possible airport development: Hutto, Taylor and Manor.

Wherever the airport goes there will be new jobs
created and millions of dollars added to the local
economy, but the chosen city will also have to live
with airport noise and increased safety and
environmental concerns.

"It's still up for grabs in all three actually. The
Manor area is pretty vocal and pretty nice about
saying no, that they did not want it. The Hutto area
has its both sides. The Taylor area is very pro
airport. They would love to have it," Mark Cross,
TxDOT spokesman, said.

Although the city of Taylor seems most open to the
airport, a recent survey conducted by the Texas
Aviation Association names Taylor as the least
favorable spot.

Manor was named as the city which would serve pilots
best.
