Strike Chaos at Orly Airport
The Scotsman, UK

Air traffic controllers at Paris’s second-largest
airport began a strike today, forcing the cancellation
of nearly 60% of flights.

Two leading trade unions called for the walkout at
Orly airport, which is to last until Friday, as part
of protests against plans to re-organise air traffic
control services.

The disruptions mainly affected domestic flights,
according to ADP, the Paris airports authority.
Paris’s main international airport, Roissy-Charles de
Gaulle, was not affected.

Only about 120 flights were expected to take off or
land at Orly today, compared to about 300 on a normal
day of traffic, ADP said.

The effects of the strike were expected to worsen
tomorrow as air traffic controllers in central France
were expected to join the walkout.

A similar strike last Wednesday also forced the
cancellation of 60% of flights at Orly.
