VANCOUVER - Aircraft refuellers working for a private
company at Vancouver International Airport are set to
to go on strike this weekend, as a cooling-off period
comes to end.

Union president Doug Muir says the 77 aircraft
refuellers are ready to strike to help them keep up
with the high cost of living in Vancouver.

"We don't expect to achieve everything our workers
feel they should get out there, but we certainly need
to do better than what is currently being offered," he
says.

Muir says some workers are paid below B.C.'s minimum
wage, because they fall under federal wage guidelines.

And he says that's not acceptable.

Globe Ground spokesperson Michelle Ward says the
company is willing to negotiate with its employees.

But she says if workers set up picket lines, Globe
Ground managers are prepared to step in to keep the
things moving.

But Ward says she can't guarantee service won't be
disrupted at YVR in the event of a strike.
