Sharjah Ruler Inspects Airport Free Zone

SHARJAH - His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed
Al Qasimi, member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of
Sharjah, yesterday inspected the progress of work at
the Sharjah International Airport Free Zone's
Dh68-million new extension project.

He examined the project plans and instructed officials
there to introduce the state-of-the-art methods into
the new installations.

Dr Shaikh Sultan further ordered that 5.5
million-square metre of land be annexed to the
airport's free zone to help meet the growing demand by
investors for land. Around 1,335 firms are currently
based in the Sharjah International Airport Free Zone
(SIAFZ), which posted unprecedented high growth rate
of 36 per cent in 2003 compared to 2002. He also
directed that the zone's infrastructure be developed
by constructing more warehouses, offices for
investors, roads and drainage system.

The Sharjah Ruler ordered that another main entrance
should be opened at the other side of SIAFZ along the
Emirates highway to make entry and exit movement of
various trucks and goods to and fro the zone more
easy.During his tour, Dr  Shaikh Sultan inspected
facilities under construction, including Dh17-million
investor's compound which houses 280 offices, a
Dh6-million SIAFZ administration building and large
112 warehouses costing Dh29 million.

Infrastructure projects currently under construction
also include a 10-km long road network at a cost of
Dh12 million. Dr Shaikh Sultan was also briefed on
service projects at the zone, mainly the Dh4million
drainage system, which will be completed in April. On
saturday, Dr  Shaikh Sultan will inaugurate the new
building of the Sharjah humanitarian service city's
branch office in the central region of Al-Dhaid.
