FAA Orders Sensis Production of Additional 11 Airport
Surface Detection Equipment Systems, Model X

DEWITT, N.Y., Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Sensis
Corporation today announced that the Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA) has exercised production orders
for 11 Airport Surface Detection Equipment Systems,
Model X (ASDE-X). The systems are in addition to the
21 initial systems ordered in December 2002. The
production option for the 11 ASDE-X systems, in
addition to associated hardware, software and support,
has an approximate value of $35M.
 
ASDE-X is an airport surface surveillance system for
the airport surface that will provide seamless
surveillance and aircraft identification to air
traffic controllers. The system uses a combination of
surface movement radar, transponder multilateration
and ADS-B sensors to display aircraft position,
labeled with flight call signs, on air traffic control
tower displays. The integration of the three
components provides data with an accuracy, update rate
and reliability that will improve airport safety and
efficiency.

"ASDE-X is a very important safety related program
with direct benefits to the flying public and the
airlines," said Marc Viggiano, president of Sensis Air
Traffic Systems. "It's very gratifying to see the
program continue to progress, and Sensis looks forward
to remaining in close coordination with the
controllers and airway facilities specialists to
ensure a smooth integration into the National Airspace
System."

Under the ASDE-X program, the FAA will deploy ASDE-X
at 34 of the nation's busiest airports. The system was
declared ready for national deployment in October 2003
when it was commissioned at General Mitchell
International Airport in Milwaukee, WI. In addition to
the 34 airports, the FAA also is looking at the
possibility of adding ASDE-X technology to 25 airports
that now have ASDE-3 ground radars coupled with the
Airport Movement Area Safety System (AMASS). This
modification will improve the overall surveillance by
adding multilateration capabilities, giving 59 of the
nation's busiest airports a common
surface-surveillance technology.

Sensis' multilateration technology is also in
operational use at London Heathrow Airport and is
being installed at seven additional European airports
-- Brussels Airport (Belgium); Charles de Gaulle
Airport (France); Frankfurt Airport (Germany); Geneva
International Airport (Switzerland); Amsterdam Airport
Schiphol (The Netherlands); Vienna International
Airport (Austria); and Zurich Airport (Switzerland).

In a separate press release issued today, Sensis
announced that the FAA has tasked Sensis to develop
system enhancements to the Airport Surface Detection
Equipment, Model X (ASDE-X) program.
