DIA has Record December
Denver Business Journal, CO
With more than 37.5 million passengers in 2003, it was
the third-busiest year for Denver International
Airport, showing a 5.2 percent increase over 2002.
More than 3.3 million passengers used DIA in December,
making it the busiest December ever in Denver aviation
history, airport officials said in a statement.
"These figures are a clear indication that the air
traffic market in Denver is recovering nicely," said
Vicki Braunagel, co-manager of aviation at DIA, in a
statement. "The numbers reflect our strong
origination-and-destination traffic, our importance as
a major airline hub, and our success in attracting new
carriers."
The December total was 5.1 percent higher than in the
same month of 2002.
DIA reported 510,275 aircraft landings and takeoffs
during 2003, up 0.2 percent from the previous year.
Cargo continued to lag a bit, airport officials said,
reflecting the slow recovery of the economy. More than
717.4 million pounds of cargo were handled at DIA in
2003, down 2 percent from 2002.
