Lack of Money is Blamed for Arlanda Airport Near-Misses
Lack of Money is Blamed for Airport Near-Misses
International Herald Tribune, France
Wednesday, February 11, 2004
Sweden's aviation authority has blamed a series of
near-misses on runways at the country's biggest
airport on a lack of money.
There have been 14 reported near-misses by planes on
the ground or between planes and vehicles since a
third runway was built at Arlanda Airport, the
country's main international facility, in 2002.
One of the problems, officials said, is that the
taxiways are no longer one-way since the third runway
was opened. Adding to the confusion is the lack of
signs along the runways about changing traffic
patterns. The officials said the budget did not
contain funding for updating the signs.
