Boeing Gets $198M Contract for Airport Security
St. Louis Business Journal, MO
The Boeing Co. has received a $198 million contract
from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for
airport security, the company said Tuesday.
The contract is a continuation of one the company
received in April 2002 to install and maintain
explosives detection systems at 429 U.S. airports.
Boeing has already installed more than 1,100
explosives detection systems, more than 6,000
explosives trace detection systems at 400 airports and
trained more than 25,000 baggage screeners for the
Transportation Security Administration.
Boeing's Homeland Security & Services unit is part of
Boeing Integrated Defense Systems, the Chicago-based
company's largest subsidiary and the area's
second-largest employer.
In addition, Boeing received a $61.8 million contract
from the U.S. Navy for a second production run of a
radar system for the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet and
E/A-18G aircraft.
The company will produce 12 Active Electronically
Scanned Array (AESA) radar systems under the contract
starting in March, with the first delivery scheduled
for December 2005. The new radar replaces existing
mechanically scanned antennas with a radar beam that
improves performance and virtually eliminates
mechanical breakdowns.
