Gainesville Regional Airport Changes

Airport Changes
AM850, FL
Changes are right around the corner for Gainesville
Regional Airport.
Gainesville Regional Airport CEO Rick Crider announced
that effective March 7th U-S Air will begin using all
jets for its flights to Charlotte.
These jets are expected to be about twice as fast as
previous models, depending on altitude, and will hold
more passengers. Crider says they are receiving
continuous high praises for the airplanes benifits,
such as capacity and convenience.
Crider says another advantage is the high altitude at
which the jets fly, allowing them to fly over the
weather. He hopes that by making these additions and
keeping competitive rates, more consumers will turn to
Gainesville Regional Airport for their flights out of
Florida.
The holidays always bring an increase in travel around
the nation which is normally a welcome pick up for the
nation's regional airports. With this past holday
seasons' raised terror alert threat many were
concerned that air travel would take a financial hit
with less people opting to fly. Crider says that
Gainesville's airport did see a significant boost in
travel during the holidays but number were down from
the previous holiday season. Though, Crider does not
attribute it to the raised terror alert, but instead
to the lack of seats available in the local market. He
says that today's U-S Air announcement should help
cure that problem. He says that passengers were very
cooperative with the rise in security measures at the
airport this season; and says all-in-all people seemed
happy to wait in lines knowing that it meant they were
safe in the air.
