Airport Records 25% Increase in Passengers
The Scotsman, UK

Scotland’s fastest-growing airport has recorded its busiest year to date.

Prestwick International Airport reported a 25% increase in annual passenger
numbers, with 1,841,798 passengers using the airport in 2003.

Last month there was a 55% rise in passenger numbers compared to December 2002,
with 167,134 passengers using the airport.

Managing Director Tom Wilson hailed the airport as “a catalyst for
prosperity”, which has helped to boost the Scottish economy by £89 million.

At the current rate of growth the airport expects to reach two million
passengers in the current financial year.

He said: “First Minister Jack McConnell has a vision of a smart, successful
Scotland.

“Glasgow Prestwick’s continuing success is helping to deliver the long-term
growth and prosperity a smart, successful Scotland needs.”

The main reason for the growth is attributed to Prestwick being Scotland’s
only low-cost airport and home to Ryanair, Europe’s largest low fares airline.
