Board of Supervisors OKs Study of Airport Design Plans
Sacramento Bee, CA
Sacramento International Airport officials got the go-ahead from the county
Board of Supervisors Wednesday to study three finalist concepts for a new
passenger terminal.
Officials hope to choose a design next month to present to the supervisors for
approval, and start building within a few years.
The new terminal project would replace antiquated Terminal B.
The project likely would include a hotel, a people-mover system, a second
multilevel garage and new entrance roads, including double-deck roadways at the
new terminal. Early estimates set the cost in the $1 billion range, to be
financed over 20 years from airport-generated revenues.
Two of the concepts are similar to the existing Terminal A. A third concept
airport officials say they are most interested in involves building a central
terminal in what is now the parking lot, and having that one eventually feed
passengers via a people-mover to Terminal A and a new terminal to the north.
