Dulles Airport Security Official Busted, Suspended
TSA Official Denies Drinking On Job

POSTED: 9:46 AM EST January 2, 2004

CHANTILLY, Va. -- The head of the Transportation Security Administration at
Dulles Airport has been suspended after being arrested for drunken driving.

An airport spokeswoman said Charles Brady was charged with driving while
intoxicated early on New Year's Day.

An airport police officer noticed him driving erratically on Route 28 and
pulled him over. He was booked, then released several hours later.

Just hours before Brady's arrest, a British Airways flight from London was
detained for security screening.

Adm. James Shear has now been named the acting federal security director at
Dulles Airport.

Meanwhile, Brady denied he was drinking on the job. According to the TSA, Brady
was supposed to be on-duty at the airport until 2 a.m. But Brady tells The
Washington Post he wasn't stopped until 2:30 in the morning -- a half-hour
after his shift ended. He claims to have spent his final working hours
monitoring flights, but wouldn't say where he went afterward.
