O'Hare Set to Keep Title as Busiest Airport
Chicago Sun Times, IL

January 2, 2004

O'Hare Airport handled a record number of flights in 2003 and appeared to
retain its title of "world's busiest," preliminary figures show.

O'Hare saw 928,735 takeoffs and landings last year, which is roughly 6,000 more
than in 2002, according to figures from the National Air Traffic Controllers
Association.

While totals for O'Hare's rival, Atlanta's Hartsfield Airport, were not
available Thursday, controllers union official Ray Gibbons said, "I can tell
you without a doubt that Atlanta's not close."

The Elgin air traffic control center that handles flights at airports across
the Chicago region processed just one more plane in 2003 than in the previous
year. The total was 1,419,495 in 2003.

Officials from the City of Chicago, which operates O'Hare, and the Federal
Aviation Administration could not immediately be reached.
