New International Gateway - Eagle County Regional Airport

EAGLE - The first international flight to clear customs in Eagle County is
scheduled to arrive today.
The flight from Canada marks the beginning of nonstop international private
flights into the Eagle County Regional Airport, with a U.S. Customs agent
performing inspections of planes landing there.
Before this weekend, international flights headed to Eagle County had to stop
at another airport to clear customs before landing in Eagle. Commercial flights
will have to continue to make such stops.
"This is a huge advantage for our guests," said Vail Valley Jet Center
President Bryan Burns.
"In terms of time and fuel, this can represent tremendous savings."
The Eagle County airport will be the only airport to offer customs inspections
between Denver and Salt Lake City, and will be one of 37 user-fee customs
stations in the country, Burns said.
About 350 international flights arrive in Eagle County every year after having
cleared customs elsewhere, he said.
"This new service will make travel to Vail and the Rocky Mountains faster, and
it will allow our airport to benefit from the purchase of fuel and other
services," he said.
