Hollywood Disputes Data on Airport Plan

Hollywood Disputes Data on Airport Plan

HOLLYWOOD ยท City commissioners are demanding a correction but probably won't
sue Friends of the Airport, a group of influential business executives it said
deliberately lied in brochures supporting a new south runway for Fort
Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

City Attorney Dan Abbott said Wednesday that Chris Pollack, the group's
president and a director of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Lodging & Hospitality
Association, has admitted the brochures his group sanctioned are wrong. But
Abbott hasn't heard from Pollack in a week and is losing hope the group will
issue a large public retraction and other remedies the city is seeking.

Last week, Abbott sent a letter threatening to sue Pollack over the brochures,
but Wednesday the commission voted by 4-3 to delay a decision on whether to
file. Pollack could not be reached for comment.

Friends of the Airport has distributed brochures accusing Hollywood leaders of
taking $1 million in county money to support runway expansion, then backing out
of the deal, city officials said. Commissioners and Abbott have called the
accusations fiction and want the correction made by Tuesday, when the county
will vote on whether to lengthen the south runway or add one to the north.

The brochures have circulated around the county for months even though Pollack
promised they would be stopped, Mayor Mara Giulianti said.
