BALTIMORE, Md., Nov. 12 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Maryland Secretary of
Transportation Robert L. Flanagan today presented the 2003 American
Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) Valor Award to the
Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI) Fire and Rescue
Department. Presented annually, this national award recognizes outstanding
performance in airport rescue and firefighter safety.

"It is a privilege and a tremendous honor to join in the recognition of
the BWI Airport Fire and Rescue Department," said Secretary Flanagan.
"This national award is a fitting tribute to the exceptional courage and
commitment shown every day by the brave men and women of this department.
We thank them for their service."

The BWI Airport Fire and Rescue Department award nomination was based on
its superb performance over a 12-month period in 2002 and 2003. The award
recognizes all phases of emergency response. During calendar year 2003,
the BWI Fire and Rescue Department responded to 2,726 calls. This record
number exceeded the previous highest year by 8 percent. In April, the AAAE
announced at its national convention that the BWI Airport Fire and Rescue
Department would be the 2003 recipient of the Valor Award.

Maryland Aviation Administration Executive Director Paul J. Wiedefeld
said: "The most important service that BWI provides is the safety and
security for passengers and customers of the airport, which is why it is
so important that we honor our firefighting and rescue personnel. This
prestigious award highlights a number of specific events, which really
showcase the outstanding ability, professionalism, and courage of the BWI
Airport Fire and Rescue Department."
