City Centre Airport May Lose Scheduled Flights
CBC Edmonton, Canada

Edmonton - Edmonton Airports is considering the elimination of all
scheduled flights into the city centre facility, an official says.

There has been a growing debate about the smaller airport's future, with a
city auditor expected to release a report on its financial viability next
week. Edmonton Airports is conducting its own study, and says it will be
released publicly by the end of the month.

"We recognize there has been concern about the role of City Centre
Airport, and we are absolutely committed to being clear about what its
role will be and how it will be managed long-term," Edmonton Airports
spokeswoman Tracey Bednard said.

Right now, only small planes carrying 10 passengers or less are allowed to
use the facility. On Jan. 1, that will change to planes with a maximum of
10 seats.

The city's lease with Edmonton Airports doesn't require the facility to
remain open to scheduled flights, as long as it's available for medivac,
private and charter flights.

Mayor Bill Smith says while he'd like to see things kept as they are, the
ultimate decision rests with Edmonton Airports.
