Southwest Air to Expand PDX Warehouse Space
Portland Business Journal, OR

Southwest Airlines plans to more than double the square footage of
warehouse space it leases at Portland International Airport.

Port commissioners are expected to approve a lease when they hold their
regular monthly meeting Wednesday, Nov. 12. Southwest, which operates 10
non-stop flights to Western U.S. cities and to Kansas City from PDX, wants
to relocate to 14,523 square feet of warehouse space at PDX Cargo Center
from a 6,337-square-foot space out of which it currently operates in the
same building.

If approved, the 10-year lease spells out base rent of $7.55 per square
foot per year, equivalent to $109,649 annually. A lease between Southwest
and the port expired at the end of June.

Southwest officials said the expansion isn't tied to any strategic plans
to grow business here. "We have seen an increase in the volume of cargo
over the duration of the previous lease. The added space will allow us to
catch up and will provide room for growth in the future, should we choose
to grow here," said Lezlie Goheen, area marketing manager for Southwest.
