Builder Penalized over Airport Noise

GILBERT - Pulte Homes will pay $30,000 for failing to disclose information
about Williams Gateway Airport to Holliday Farms homebuyers from 1995 to
1998.

The civil penalty handed down by the Arizona Department of Real Estate is
higher than most cases it handles, said spokeswoman Liz Carrasco.

Pulte agreed to the penalty to avoid going to court, where it could have
been charged $1,000 for every real estate agent and subdivision developer
who violated state disclosure statutes.

"I'm thinking if we would have proceeded it could have added up to a lot
more than $30,000 . . . " Carrasco said.

"At least 100,000 flights a year were going out of the airport."

Pulte did not intentionally mislead customers, said spokeswoman Jacque
Petroulakis.

"We don't know how, but unfortunately it happened," she said.

The state's investigation found that when Williams Air Force Base became a
commercial airport in the 1990s, Pulte didn't note the change in its
public report.

Fines from enforcement actions support the staff and services of the
Department of Real Estate.
