Senai Airport Expects 50% Jump in Passenger Traffic by Mid-2004
The Edge Daily, Malaysia
Senai Airport Terminal Services Sdn Bhd (SATS), the operator of Senai
Airport in Johor, is confident that its new partnership with AirAsia Sdn
Bhd will help boost the airport's passenger traffic by 50 per cent to 1.50
million by mid-2004.
In a statement on Nov 11, SATS said other than the deal with AirAsia for
the no-frills airline to open up a second hub in Senai Airport, its
partnership with Malaysia Airlines would also contribute to the growth in
passenger traffic.
Director of SATS Datuk Mohd Sidik Shaik Osman said the partnerships showed
"Johor's potential to be an air logistics hub for both passengers and
cargo".
To handle the increase in passengers, SATS is expanding its car parking
area from the current 400 bays to 1,200.
AirAsia, which started operating at Senai Airport in October, is using the
airport as its southern hub for passengers from Johor and Singapore to fly
to various destinations in Malaysia, and later in the region.
