Ban on Jets Remains at City Airport

International Herald Tribune, France

TORONTO The Toronto Port Authority, which operates the city's small island airport, has rejected a proposal by Air Canada to lift a 20-year ban on jet aircraft at the downtown airport.

.

Joseph Randell, president of Air Canada's Jazz unit, asked the federal agency on Saturday to allow quiet jet aircraft in Toronto's City Center Airport after a bridge has been constructed.

.

The proposed bridge to the island airport has been a major issue in Toronto's election for mayor, to be held Monday. David Miller, who is leading in polls, opposes a bridge while the other major candidates support it as long as jets are not allowed to fly to the airport.
