Concepcion airport employing scarecrows
BNamericas.com

The Carriel Sur regional airport, serving southern Chile's Region VIII
capital Concepcion has introduced inflated "scarecrows" to keep birds out of
aircrafts' flight paths, El Mercurio reported.

The 3m tall scarecrows are alternately deflated and inflated so as to be in
constant motion.

Concepcion is the largest city south of Santiago, and, along with
neighboring port Talcahuano, is an important industrial center.

Some 450,000 passengers/year and 2,000t/y of cargo on 15,000 flights pass
through Carriel Sur. The airport is 509km south of the capital.
