Aiport evacuation after bomb scare
Agence France-Presse
THREE people were arrested today after a bomb scare led to the evacuation of
one of the terminals at Gatwick Airport, south of London, last night, but
police ruled out an attempted terrorist attack.
A spokesman for Sussex police said two men and a woman had been questioned
in connection with 1977 legislation relating to bomb hoaxes.
The woman and one of the men were released on bail "pending further
interview" while the other man was detained for further questioning.
The police spokesman said: "The circumstances are not believed to be
terrorist related."
The alarm was raised when a car, without number plates, was found apparently
abandoned on a road near Gatwick's south terminal. The road and the railway
serving the airport were closed.
An army bomb disposal team carried out three controlled explosions on the
vehicle and the road and railway were reopened five hours after the alarm
was first raised. No bomb was found.
