KLIA aims for full ISO certification
BY DANNY YAP
Malaysia - The Star
ALL divisions of the KL International Airport (KLIA) would be ISO certified
by 2005, according to Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) managing
director Datuk Bashir Ahmad.
KLIA already conformed to international standards but being endorsed for
excellence in management by an internationally recognised body would augur
well for its image, he said.
“This is the sixth ISO certification for MAHB group,” he told StarBiz after
the engineering division of Malaysia Airports (Sepang) Sdn Bhd received MS
ISO 9001:2000 certification from Sirim QAS International Sdn Bhd in KLIA
yesterday. Malaysia Airports (Sepang) is a unit of MAHB that operates and
manages KLIA.
The scope of the certification includes excellence in operation, maintenance
and management of KLIA infrastructure and facilities covering areas such as
electrical power system, airfield ground lighting, communications systems,
building and terminal facilities runways and taxiways. The certification is
valid until 2006.
“The certification will enhance KLIA's reputation as one of the best
airports in the world and reinforce the confidence and belief of all
agencies and business partners in the airport's strength and capabilities,”
Bashir said.
KLIA was voted the runner-up for Best Airport in the world and Asia Pacific
in the Airport World Service Excellence Awards last June.
Bashir said KLIA was also accredited with the MS ISO 9002 certification by
Sirim QAS in 2000 for the provision of airport aviation security as well as
airport fire and rescue services.
