Passenger Numbers Continue to Increase at FYI
Press Release
Fresno, CA - While national air passenger numbers continue to struggle to
recover, Fresno Yosemite International Airport has achieved steady growth in
2003. Since January, passenger boardings at FYI have increased an average
of 4%. July's 105,112 passengers set a record for monthly traffic, up 9.75%
over June 2003, which was 9.36% higher than May 2003, and 8.4% over July
2002.
FYI's rising numbers are in stark contrast to other airports across the
country. Nationally, passenger numbers have averaged a drop of 2 percent or
greater over prior year's numbers, lingering in the minus 4% range according
to Air Transport Association documents. Larger neighbor airports, such as
San Francisco and San Jose, have reported up to a 20 percent drop in
passenger numbers within the past year.
Noah Lagos, Director of Transportation at FYI commented, "FYI has continued
to experience passenger growth, not only due to our convenient airline
service, but due to the ideal location between the basin and the bay.
Passengers are tiring of the long car rides, only to be greeted with long
lines at other airports. More passengers are recognizing the advantages of
flying Fresno."
Summer traffic was boosted with the addition of a third American Airlines
jet to Dallas/Ft Worth, a third Horizon Air jet to Seattle, a third
SkyWest/United Express jet to Denver, and larger America West/Mesa jets to
Phoenix. Daily, FYI has 48 departures with 2,391 available seats to nine
nonstop destinations, and one-stop service to cities worldwide. Information
on airlines and schedules are available online at www.flyfresno.com or by
calling 1-800-244-2FLY.
