Airport may soon install rocking chairs in terminals
The Charleston (SC) Post Courier
Tourists flying into Charleston International Airport may soon be able to
get off the plane and slump right into Southern-style relaxation -- a
rocking chair.
Taking a tip from airports like Charlotte and Philadelphia, the authority
that runs the local terminal is considering plans to put up new rockers in
both terminals.
"I invite you to go to one of those airports and try to sit in one, because
they're always occupied," Pat Waters told his fellow board members at an
authority meeting last week.
Mount Pleasant-based Royall Ace Hardware has offered 14 new rockers for
free.
While the board agrees that rocking chairs would be a taste- ful and
appropriate addition to the Lowcountry airport, some are hesitant to accept
such an offer.
"I think you're opening up a door that could be a floodgate," said Keith
Summey, mayor of North Charleston and a member of the airport's board of
directors. "I think you've got a multitude of vendors that would be
interested in showing products."
Depending on prices, the airport directors may OK the purchase of some
rockers at their next meeting Sept. 11.
