Airport Air condition Out Again
By Sylvia Martinez
KRIS-TV Ch 6 NBC, Corpus Christi (TX)
The problem for many at the Corpus Christi International Airport is not the
heat outside, it's the heat inside the terminal.
That's because the air conditioning system is not working properly.
The moment you walk into the airport, you can feel the heat, and you can see
some workers were sweating.
Many of the workers had fans going at their stations.
Airport officials say they've had problems with the air conditioning system
for the past several weeks.
When you walk in, you can see sweat pouring down some security workers as
they hustle to check bags.
And passengers can't help but try to keep cool in a not so cool terminal.
Carrie Mclure has been waiting upstairs near the passenger check in and
says, "Just walking outside it's really hot compared to Montana weather, and
inside the airport, it's just as hot."
Carrie's friend Kae Quick, says, "It almost seems cooler outside because it
seems so, everything's so close in here, the air's not moving. It's cooler
outside than it seems in here."
Robin Mcnauea just came back home from a flight and says, "It was off last
week when I flew out upstairs, down here it was fine but upstairs it was
out."
That's when 6 News first reported maintenance crews working overtime to fix
an a-c unit that was down.
But there's still problems with the air conditioning which is putting a
strain on the workers.
Sally Ruiz, works at airport rent a car booth and says, "I got in about 2 pm
on Sunday, so it was pretty warm when I got here. The other night when we
got here it was late and it hadn't been working all day, and it's hard
because you're having to handle a lot of paper work and when you get two or
three flights in it gets really really warm with all the body's around."
So until the a-c units are fully working, workers will depend on fans to
keep cool, and passengers, will have to rely on keeping cool the old
fashioned way, using paper to fan themselves.
According to an airport spokesperson, maintenance crews have been working on
the chillers.
They say the air conditioning system works but it just hasn't been working
up to speed.
No one's sure how long it will take to get the problem fixed.
