Airport denies it made man drop his pants
United Press International
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., (UPI) -- A Florida man's claim he was forced to
remove his pants at security is being denied by the airport.
Martin Holness was bound from Fort Lauderdale to Chicago July 17 when the
pants-dropping occurred, the Miami Herald said Tuesday.
Holness claims a security official told him to remove his sweat pants to be
run through the X-ray machine. The security official says the opposite --
that Holness "lost his composure" after two quarters in his pocket set off
the hand wand.
"I'm standing in my underwear, looking stupid," said Holness, a 34-year-old
truck driver from Miramar. "Even when I got to Chicago, people from the
flight were still looking at me like I was crazy."
An airport spokesman said multiple witnesses corroborate the security
guard's account. But the agency conceded the guard should have summoned a
supervisor well before the incident escalated to the point where the pants
came off.
