Poland/ Audit shows lapses in security at airports
Poland - Radio 1, Warsaw

[Presenter] According to a report by the Supreme Audit Chamber [NIK],
security at our airports has not improved after 11 September 2001. The
report says that because of numerous gaps in fences and open gates it is
possible to enter the airport tarmac and avoid official gates. Krystyna
Prostak read NIK's report.

[Prostak] Inadequate security measures exist not only in general public
areas, but also those used by government officials. A photograph attached to
the report shows that it is possible to enter the so-called government
sector at the Warsaw Okecie Airport from the street. [Passage omitted]

The NIK deputy head, Krzysztof Szwedowski, also drew attention to
shortcomings in the procedures connected with luggage checks. And what is
more, although there are the so-called restricted zones, there were cases
when the security protection systems had been bypassed. The training and
equipment of the airport security and fire-fighting services are also
inadequate.
