Deputy Airport Director Accused Of Lying Resigns From Position
Woman Said She Was Harvard Alumnus
The Associated Press

A deputy director of the Philadelphia International Airport who allegedly
lied on her resume by saying she was a Harvard University alumnus has
resigned from her position.

Airport officials on Thursday accepted the resignation of Janis L. Pierce,
43, who had served as the airport's deputy director of aviation, marketing
and public affairs since September 2001.

"This is over as far as we're concerned," mayoral spokeswoman Barbara Grant
said.

On her resume, Pierce said she graduated from Harvard in 1983. University
officials later said she attended the school from September 1977 to May
1983, but left without receiving a degree.

Pierce, who reportedly has not shown up for work since June 13, has not
publicly stated why she decided to resign from the position. She has already
returned a city-owned Ford Explorer that she was permitted to drive.

Airport spokesman Mark Pesce said Pierce would remain on the city payroll
through the end of the month.

It was unclear where Pierce lives and she could not be located for comment.
