Reno airport traffic up for first six months of 2003
The Associated Press
There is good news for the Reno airport after a wait of more than two years.
The number of passengers using Reno-Tahoe International increased
fractionally in the first six months of this year, buoyed by a 4.8 percent
gain in June.
The 0.2 percent increase through the end of last month compared with a
national decrease of 3.6 percent in departing passengers, the airport said
in a release.
"Reno-Tahoe has rebounded from 9-11 and the national economic downturn
better than most airports across the country,"airport Executive Director
Krys T. Bart said in Friday's statement.
"We have seen our scheduled carriers add flights and earlier this month
welcomed Aloha Airlines, the newest airline to serve Reno-Tahoe,"she added.
A drop in passenger numbers at the airport began shortly after American
Airlines took over Reno Air in the middle of 2000, then started eliminating
routes. Problems heightened after the Sept. 11 attacks a year later.
For the first half of the year, the airport served 2.2 million passengers,
including 410,666 last month.
