"Iranian Minister Says 7 Major Airports to be Established"

IRANIAN MINISTER SAYS 7 MAJOR AIRPORTS TO BE ESTABLISHED

SHAHR-E REY, Tehran prov, - Minister of Roads and Transportation Ahmad
Khorram said here that his ministry plans to construct seven international
airports and purchase 30 new ships to upgrade the country's public
transportation fleet.

Khorram told a group of aviation officials that Imam Khomeini International
Airport will be operational on February 11, marking the anniversary of the
1979 Islamic Revolution's victory.

He said his ministry had followed an array of plans to improve the national
transportation fleet, including discarding aging planes both last year and
in the current year, and adding 5,000 wagons to the railway networks and
8,000 lorries to road transportation fleet this year and 15,000 more next
year.

He added that Imam Khomeini International Airport would be capable of
catering for six million Iranian and foreign passengers.
