Safety measures in place at Sacramento International Airport
The Sacramento (CA) Bee
The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department, in conjunction with the
Sacramento Department of Airports and the Federal Transportation Security
Agency, has developed contingency plans for ensuring the security of the
flying public at Sacramento International Airport.
The Sheriff's Department has deployed additional personnel at the airport to
support heightened security measures and potential threats to domestic
facilities because of the Iraqi war.
Electronic message boards have been deployed at the airport entrance,
notifying drivers that vehicles approaching the airport terminals are
subject to search.
Current plans do not call for checkpoints to be established for vehicle
searches, but those plans may change at a moment's notice, according to
Sheriff's Department officials.
Officers will continue to visually screen vehicles approaching the terminals
and will take appropriate action as necessary to ensure the security of the
facility and safety of the public.
Any driver entering the airport property who declines to submit to a search,
if requested, will be given the opportunity to leave the property before the
search, officials said.
