Airport barber hangs up his clippers; blames security
The Associated Press
Charlotte, North Carolina --- Wilbert Love has been cutting hair at the
airport in Charlotte, North Carolina, for 44 years. But he's throwing in the
towel -- and blaming airport security.
Love's shop is in a non-secure area outside the passenger checkpoints at
Charlotte/Douglas International Airport. He says security measures adopted
after the September eleventh attacks make it tougher to pass from the
non-secure to the secure area -- so passengers are less willing to leave the
concourses for a haircut.
The 71-year-old says he's closing his shop as soon as he can sell his
equipment. He says the end could come this week.
The airport wants to put a coffee shop in Love's space, because security
measures mean people without tickets can't get to food service outlets
inside the secure area.
