MILLVILLE - A $540,000 Federal Aviation Administration grant will enable the
Delaware River & Bay Authority to install new fencing for runway security at
Millville Airport.
U.S. Rep. Frank LoBiondo, R-2nd, said that the funds will be used to install
8,000 linear feet of 8-foot-high chain link fencing around the airport's
runway safety area, and to replace 4,000 linear feet of 4-foot fencing
throughout the area.
The project is expected to get under way in the fall, according to Thomas
Ecker, new DRBA airport operations manager.
"Safety and security are my major priorities, so I am very glad to receive
the grant," Ecker said.
"I am tremendously pleased to have helped secure the money for this federal
grant to Millville Airport and look forward to the added security measures
the grant will provide," LoBiondo said.
City Commissioner Tim Shannon, director of parks and public property, said
Monday, "We have a good partnership with the DRBA, and I am very pleased
that the Millville Airport has received the grant for added security."
The $540,000 award is part of an overall federal grant of $840,000 earmarked
for safety improvements at airports in Ocean City, Cape May County;
Hammonton, Atlantic County; and Millville, according to LoBiondo.
The FAA-funded program will be administered by the N.J. Department of
Transportation headed by Commissioner Jack Lettiere.
