CEO says airports flying into shaky times
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation

The new chief executive of the Sydney Airport acknowledges uncertainty
surrounding a war on Iraq could be damaging to airport operators.

The airport was bought by a Macquarie Bank led group for $5.8 billion last
year and is being headed by former top Commonwealth public servant, Max
Moore-Wilton.

Mr Moore-Wilton has told Channel Nine traffic numbers through the airport
have been marginally down for February and March.

But he says it is not only the prospect of a looming war which is having an
effect on the industry.

"I think the previous six months everyone has been hoping there wouldn't be
a war in Iraq," Mr Moore-Wilton said.

"We've had a hundred year drought which has had a devastating effect on the
rural and regional economies in Australia.

"We've now got seven-year-lows in a number of major international stock
markets and for the first time in a number of years the Australian share
market is being impacted as a result."
