Man jailed in Phoenix for carrying box cutter on airplane
The Associated Press

A Los Angeles man was arrested here Friday for carrying a box cutter on an
airplane, FBI officials said.

Philip Walker Goldman, 49, was detained after an America West Airlines plane
touched down at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport at 12:55 p.m.

The flight crew had reported that Goldman was acting erratically on board.

Goldman showed a box cutter that he had carried onto Flight 487, which was
headed from Miami.

Flight officials notified law enforcement, and Goldman was detained when the
plane landed.

"Flight attendants and passengers are a lot more aware of their surroundings
now," said Suzanne Luber, Transportation Safety Administration spokeswomen.
"That is just an additional layer of security."

An investigation was conducted by the FBI, Phoenix police, and the TSA.

The U.S. Attorney's Office charged Goldman with one count of bringing a
dangerous weapon aboard an aircraft, which is a federal felony.

Goldman was being detained at Madison Street Jail in Phoenix.
