Perth Airport says recovered from hit by Sept 11 and Ansett loss
Australia - The Australian Associated Press
PERTH, - Perth airport's operator says a record number of passengers passing
through its terminals over the past six months shows it has recovered from
the effects of September 11 and the loss of Ansett. Westralia Airports
Corporation said the numbers of domestic passengers had risen to 1,823,538
in the six months to December 31, 2002 - up 14 per cent from the same period
in 2001-2002. International passengers were up to 873,867 to December 31,
2002, or four per cent more than 2001-2002, despite a drop in travel after
the Bali bombings, Westralia said in a statement. The launching later this
week of Bali-based Air Paradise flights between Denpasar and Perth was
expected to contribute to recovery in that sector, Westralia said. Passenger
number increases and revised aeronautical charges from July 2002 contributed
to a revenue growth for the first half of 2002-2003 of more than 23 per cent
to $47.1 million. It also recorded an increase in earnings before interest,
taxation depreciation and amortisation for the same period of 28 per cent to
$30.9 million, and an operating profit before tax of $3.5 million. Westralia
said it was also close to completing a capital restructure which was
expected to further improve the company's financial standing.
