Unresolved mysteries at Mexico City Airport
Mexico - Crónica/Corporate Mexico

MEXICO CITY, -- Questions remain about the decision by Enrique González, the
director general of the Mexico City International Airport (AICM), to build a
new 450-million peso (US$41 million) terminal on the site currently used as
the terminal for Aeromar airlines. While the Transport and Communications
Secretariat (SCT) has already signed off on the deal, some airport personnel
have protested the decision that will cause 30% of air travel to be rerouted
to Toluca, Puebla or Cuernavaca.Others question Gonzalez' discretion in
general, citing the 2 million peso (US$182,000) bonus he granted himself and
the 40% raise given to his immediate staff. Additionally, he has been
criticized over suspected favoritism toward Aeromar, evidenced by the
airline's partnership with Cintra, the administrator of government-owned
airlines. Customers who purchase tickets to fly with one of the large
airlines may be switched without prior notice to Aeromar.
