McCormick & Schmick's to try first airport restaurant at PDX
By Robert Goldfield
The Portland (OR) Business Journal
If Port of Portland commissioners approve the lease on Wednesday,
Portland-based restaurant company McCormick & Schmick's will open a location
in Portland International Airport.
The arrangement calls for airport concession company Anton Airfood Inc. to
operate McCormick & Schmick's Grill under a licensing agreement with the
restaurant company, according to a summary document prepared by port staff.
The grill will occupy 6,600 square feet in the recently completed expansion
of the airport's south terminal.
Construction on the $2.6 million capital project would start this summer,
with opening anticipated for November.
In 2001 the port issued a request for proposals for a food service operation
in that area of the airport. A committee reviewed the five proposals and
selected Anton/McCormick & Schmick based on Anton's airport experience and
the local flavor of McCormick & Schmick's, the report states.
Staff concluded that security measures added at the airport since the RFP
was issued would not prevent a restaurant from succeeding at the location.
If built, the restaurant would mark the first airport location for McCormick
& Schmick's, which operates 38 restaurants across the country.
