Car searches to resume at airport
The Billings (MT) Gazette

Car searches will resume at Billings Logan International Airport because the
nation's terrorism alert status increased from yellow to high-risk orange on
Friday.

Bruce Putnam, director of aviation and transit, said Friday that car
searches will start again today. Private security workers will inspect each
vehicle that enters the airport.

Drivers will be required to open their car trunks before they will be
allowed to proceed, Putnam said.

Despite the tighter security, it will be business as usual at the airport,
since car searches typically take less than a minute, Putnam said. Airlines
ask people to report 90 minutes before their flight.

Car searches and other measures went into effect after the terrorist attacks
of Sept. 11, 2001. The car searches were discontinued last year.
