Baton Rouge Metro Airport heightens security
Passengers advised to plan ahead

Security measures at the Baton Rouge Metro Airport were stepped up Friday
night in light of the fact that Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge
increased the threat level from yellow to orange.

Jonathan Buckles with the Transportation Security Administration in Baton
Rouge says TSA officials are working with local law enforcement and the
airport authority to ensure the safety of travelers coming into or going out
of Baton Rouge.

"While most of the security measures won't be revealed or obvious to the
public, some things may be noticeable to travelers," said Buckles.

Those include more officers patrolling both the terminal and the perimeter
and the reinstatement of the 300-foot rule that prohibits unattended
vehicles from parking within 300-feet of the terminal building. Airport
spokesman Bill Profita says that will significantly limit the number of
parking spaces near the terminal, especially those within the parking
garage.

Airport officials say the full measures will go into effect some time
Saturday. They are recommending that passengers allow for extra time to make
their flights.
