Audit: Former Memphis Airport Authority Official Misused Funds
The Associated Press
MEMPHIS (AP) -- An audit shows the former Memphis-Shelby County Airport
Authority financial chief used more than $90,000 for personal expenses.
The authority fired Jerry McMichael on October 4th after an anonymous memo
alleged his misuse of airport funds. McMichael was executive vice president
of finance and administration.
The report from the independent auditors said the dollar figure may be
higher, but the paper trail wasn't sufficient to find it.
Auditors found McMichael used more than $50,000 from one account to pay
personal credit card bills. That money came from the Airport Crew barbecue
team, which was formed nearly a decade ago as a marketing tool.
McMichael has said he will repay the money.
It would be up to the U.S. Attorney's office whether criminal charges are
pursued.
