Incident at RDU closes Terminal A
The Raleigh (NC) News & Observer
MORRISVILLE -- A terminal at Raleigh Durham International Airport was
closed for 50 minutes Sunday afternoon when a traveler set off a metal
detector and walked away before he was screened for weapons.
The incident occurred about 5:20 p.m. at Terminal A. Workers with the
Transportation Security Administration closed the terminal, found the
traveler, screened him and determined that he posed no threat. But
during that time, seven flights landed and were told to wait on the
runway. Of 13 airlines with flights scheduled during that time, two
later reported that takeoffs were delayed because of the incident, RDU
spokeswoman Karen Dunton said.
A TSA spokesman in Washington said the traveler, a 19-year-old college
student, was "profusely apologetic." He was not charged.
