Airport chapel draws crowd
The Oklahoman
TULSA -- The new Interfaith Chapel at Tulsa International Airport is
serving its purpose, judging from the many people who have signed the
chapel's guest book.
In fact, a wedding was held in the chapel two weeks ago, said Stephen
Cranford, executive director of Tulsa Metropolitan Ministry.
The interfaith ministry leases the chapel from the city of Tulsa, whose
Brent Kitchens, director of airports, approached the ministry to help
with the faith-based area.
Cranford said the organization created a task force that raised funds
for furnishings in the chapel and presented ideas for its design.
He said the chapel, dedicated Sept. 11, has three areas, including a
lobby area, prayer room with movable altar, and counseling room.
Religious books and readings are available for visitors, plus helpful
information on grief and the grieving process. To accommodate people of
all faiths, Cranford said, prayer rugs and pillow-type kneelers are also
offered in the chapel.
